An honest answer

Is permanent laser hair removal really lasting?

You get a strong, long-lasting hair reduction. Even so, nobody who is honest promises one hundred percent: your body keeps changing. This is what you can realistically expect.

Strong, long-lasting hair reduction

The laser disables most hair follicles, so no new hair grows there.

No 100 percent guarantee

Hormones, genetics or medication can cause a few new, usually fine, hairs later on.

Sometimes one session a year

A maintenance session keeps the result looking good. After that you are set for another year.

A realistic result

What can you expect from permanent laser hair removal?

The same starting point applies to every area. How quickly the result comes depends mainly on your hair and your hormones. We discuss this with you during the intake.

Six to ten sessions

With four to six weeks in between, so the laser catches every hair in its growth phase.

Course of 5 + 1 free

You get six treatments for the price of five. You can see the prices per area on laser hair removal.

Dark hair works best

Blonde and red hair respond less well, and grey or white hair unfortunately cannot be treated.

The hair growth cycle

Why are several sessions needed?

Every hair goes through its own cycle. The laser only works on hair that is growing at that moment, and that is never all of your hair at once. That is why we treat every four to six weeks. You can read more on the hair growth cycle page.

Growth phase

The hair is attached to the root. This is when the laser works best.

Transition phase

The hair detaches from the root. The laser then has less effect.

Resting phase

The follicle rests. Its turn comes in a later session, once new hair grows.

What matters

What affects the result?

The result of permanent laser hair removal depends on a few things. During the intake we look at all of them with you.

Hair colour

Dark hair gives the best result. With blonde or red hair the effect is smaller, and grey or white hair unfortunately cannot be treated.

Hormones

With PCOS or the menopause, for example, hair can return faster, so you may need maintenance more often.

Medication

Some medicines affect hair growth or make the skin more sensitive to light. So always tell us what you use.

Regularity

If you keep four to six weeks between sessions and do not wax in between, the result builds up best.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about permanent laser hair removal

Is laser hair removal really permanent?

You get a strong, long-lasting hair reduction, because most hair follicles no longer produce new hair. A one hundred percent guarantee does not exist. Sometimes one maintenance session a year is helpful afterwards to keep the result.

How much hair reduction can I expect?

You get a strong, long-lasting hair reduction. How quickly that happens depends on the area, your hair colour and your hormones. During the intake we honestly discuss what is realistic for you.

How many sessions are needed for a permanent result?

Usually six to ten sessions, with four to six weeks in between. The laser only works on hair that is in the growth phase at that moment.

Can the hair come back later?

Sometimes a few fine hairs grow back later, for example due to hormonal changes. These are usually finer and lighter, and quickly gone again with a maintenance session.

What does permanent laser hair removal cost?

You pay per area, for example €50 per session for the underarms. With a course of 5 + 1 free, you get six treatments for the price of five. You can calculate all prices on the laser hair removal page.
